Under 6:

The Under 6 program is the prerequisite program for all new players age 7 and under who are beginning to play soccer. The Under 6 program is sometimes referred to as instructional. Players will be formed into small teams and will have an assigned coach. The team will be led by their coach through a series of fun soccer activity stations and will also play small sided games. This age group plays on Saturdays between the hours of 9am-12noon and also one random day during the week. 2011 season starts July 9, notification letters will be sent before July 1. The goal is to introduce the children to soccer in a low-pressured fun environment.

Under 7:

Again for 2011 - The U7 MICRO SOCCER PROGRAM is a continuation of the U6 instructional program. GISC is introducing Micro Soccer for the U7 age group. This program has been proven very successful in other clubs. All players will play the entire time and will benefit from more “touches” on the ball. There is no need for teams, since players will rotate through the drills and several small-sided games with the help of facilitators.

Sessions will be exactly 1 hour, Saturday's from 9-10am. Any weeknight sessions will typically be from 6:30-7:30pm.

Please refer to the Parent Letter that was given to registered parents by the coaches and the U7 Micro Soccer Flier and FAQ's here for more information.

Under 8:

The Under 8 program is slightly more advanced than Under 7 but its primary focus is still on player development. Teams will practice a few times before the season begins to meet their coach and teammates. The first 10 minutes of every game is a practice which will focus on a technical skill that all players at this age need to do over and over in order to master. Under 8 teams play against one another in 5V5 games (4 field players plus a goalie) on the same size field used in Under 7. Games will be four 10 minute quarters. Games will be played on Saturdays between the hours of 9am-12noon and also one random day during the week; start time is 6:30pm. Referees are used.

Under 9:

The Under 9 playing field is larger, the nets are bigger, and there are more players on the field at one time than there were in the younger age groups. Under 9 will follow FIFA rules. This includes off-sides, where if a player is closer to the goal than 2 of the opposing players (including the goalkeeper) when the ball was kicked, play will stop and the other team will get the ball. All 9nder 9 teams play in a 7v7 format (6 field players and a goalie). Games will be four 15 minute quarters. The games are played on Saturdays during the hours of 9am-12noon and also one random day during the week; start time is 6:30pm. Referees are used. The emphasis is on player development not on winning. In addition to playing House League, players who have a stronger interest in soccer may also be playing travel soccer. House players who have not considered Travel Soccer may wish to give it a go at the tryouts held at the end of the season. (Travel Soccer gives our Grand Island teams a chance to play against equal teams in age and ability from other nearby towns.)

Under 10:

The Under 10 program is identical to Under 9 except that players are developing at different levels. Players are evaluated against their peers and are divided into teams of equal ability. All teams play in a 7v7 format (6 field players and a goalie). Games will be four 15 minute quarters. Games will be played on Saturdays between the hours of 9am-12noon and also one random day during the week; start time is 6:30pm. Under 10 will follow FIFA rules including offsides. Referees are used. No results are kept but are monitored by the GISC Board of Directors. In addition to playing House League, players who have mastered a high level of soccer ability for this age group may be playing Travel Soccer and those who are not yet doing so, should be encouraged to tryout for Travel Soccer to play teams from other towns.

Under 12:

At this age group players are rated by their coachs evaluation and teams are selected in a manner so that players can be most competitive, develop best, and have the most fun. Winning is not a primary objective. Under 12 will follow FIFA rules. All teams play in a 9v9 format (8 field players and a goalie). Games will be two 35 minute halves. Games will be played on Saturdays between the hours of 9am-1pm and also one random day during the week; start time is 6:30pm.

Under 15:

At this age group players are rated by their coachs evaluation and teams are selected in a manner so that players can be most competitive, develop best, and have the most fun. And yet, under 15 is a very social, less serious soccer game. It is still competitive but many of the very strong Under 12 travel players who only want to play competitively, stop playing Under 15 house. Games will be played on Sundays at 4pm or 5:30pm and also on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesdays at 6:30pm. There are still great travel players who continue in play in house league in Under 15, but they are doing so to keep their skills sharp, see their friends, and have fun playing. Stress: Under 15 is fun. Under 15 will follow FIFA rules All teams play in a 11v11 format (10 field players and a goalie). Games will be two 40 minute halves. 11v11 is the adult version of soccer that includes off sides and a 100 yard field. Referees are used. No results are kept but are monitored by the GISC Board of Directors.
